Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Young people today are not as polite as those in the past were. 这个话题,有个学生写完之后向我汇报第一个分论点,我判定它是跑题的。以下是她写的第一个分论点:In modern society, because of the mass media, a lot of impolite behaviors from the young generation are reported, which is the major reason why people came to know some youngsters are impolite. However, when it comes to the past, it was a totally different picture, because there was no internet or media back then and people living at that time didn’t know the impolite behaviors from others. The fact that youngsters in contemporary society are more polite has something to do with the mass media. Specifically speaking, news reports as well as the internet make it possible for young people today to better learn about good manners or the so-called polite behaviors, a case in which they can easily learn how to behave themselves, which I suppose is exactly the major reason why young people nowadays have become more polite when compared with their counterparts living in the past. However, when it comes to hundreds of years ago, it was a totally different situation, because the spread of information was hindered by the under-development of technology, which made it out of the question for young people to learn broadly about good manners through the internet or newspapers.

In order to succeed, we should be more like others than be different from others.

The issue concerning whether or not being different from others may contribute to our success has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that we should be more like others in our lives if we are really serious about achieving success, as that will definitely bring us closer to other people, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that being different from others, we are more likely to succeed. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of

the foremost importance. It seems undeniable in a broad sense that being different can help us obtain the attention from people who might be influential on our future success, including employers, cooperators and even investors, to name just a few. Specifically speaking, our potential may be discovered and we will be provided with further opportunities for development, such as job promotions, cooperation opportunities as well as the investment for our programs. However, when it comes to someone who always follows other people blindly or imitates their behaviors, it is a totally different picture. In that case, he can seldom make achievements surpassing people’s expectations. A vivid example to back up the previous argument would be my elder cousin. In retrospect, three years ago, he graduated from college and became employed as a salesperson in a local company. However, within three years, he successfully climbed his career ladder and got the appreciation from his employer, which is exactly the major reason why he was promoted sales manager of his department several months ago. I was not a bit surprised upon hearing the news, because my cousin is a person who has different perspectives in viewing things from many people and he also has distinct marketing skills from the other staff members in his department. Therefore, the very first year he worked in that company, he managed to arouse the attention from some senior managers and quickly stood out.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration.People’s talents differ greatly, a case in which we should discover our own talents and exploit our own potential rather than chase the public trend and do something we dislike. To be detailed, the development of social economy as well as the advancement of human civilization requires elites from different fields, including finance, art and also politics. Generally speaking, an individual must be talented in a specific area and it’s simply a matter of time before this talent is discovered. Being similar to other people and choosing the same careers or majors will undoubtedly result in redundant labor resources in certain fields, thereby making it increasingly difficult for individuals to stand out and establish themselves. Actually, a recent survey conducted by Peking University in China has revealed an astonishing fact that over 78 percent of the successful entrepreneurs in the world, such as Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, were discovered to have totally different interests and gift from ordinary people and more than 90 percent of them insisted on developing their special interests, eventually making a name for themselves.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that it makes great sense to be different in order to achieve success in life.

  独立写作第二篇

It was easier to achieve success in the past than it is today.

The issue concerning whether or not achieving success has become much easier in modern

society has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that it was comparatively easier to succeed in the past, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that it’s more likely for people to achieve the goals they have and establish themselves in certain fields today. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. The advent of some high technology like the internet has made it possible for people to access all types of resources or information in modern society, a case in which people can easily learn about new opportunities and set clear goals for themselves. Grasping those opportunities and setting clear goals will definitely pave the way for people’s future success. However, when it comes to the past, it was a totally different picture.Specifically speaking, back then, people lived in an era when the spread of information was hindered by various factors, which is directly responsible for the phenomenon that most people were ignorant and never had the chance to learn about how to achieve success. A vivid example to back up the previous argument would be my grandfather. He used to be a person full of ideas when he was young, but he always failed to put them into practice, which can be attributed to his lack of opportunities. If he had been born in the modern world, his destiny would have been changed dramatically.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. The higher possibility for achieving success today also has something to do with the better education as well as the improvement in people’s literacy which arises along with the development of world economy. Actually, a recent survey conducted by Peking University in China has revealed an astonishing fact thatmore than 72 percent of the most celebrated and successful entrepreneurs in the world, including Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, to name just a few, once received advanced education in top universities. Good education laid a solid foundation for them to start their own businesses in their future lives and eventually become well-established. What is worth noticing is that among the 72 percent celebrities, nearly half of them became successful under the assistance from their friends and classmates in college. In other words, not only did advanced education bring them the opportunity to acquire useful knowledge for future success, but also brought them a circle of friends that could make useful social connections in the future.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that owing to the emergence of high technology and people’s improved literacy, achieving success has been made easier now.

  独立写作第三篇

It is only worth watching movies that can teach us something about real life

The issue concerning whether or notwe should only watch movies that teach us something about real lifehas been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that movies of other categories are meaningless and are not worth watching, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that movies which entertain us or make it possible for us to learn about the future are also valuable. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance.Entertaining movies, namely comedies, never fail to help viewers get some relaxation. Specifically speaking, most people nowadays, youngsters in particular, are always preoccupied with their jobs or academic studies,

a case in which they are usually confronted with overwhelming pressure and find it hard to devote themselves to future work or studies. By watching entertaining movies whose mere purpose is to bring people fun rather than educate them, most people can release their stress and better focus on future work, thereby improving their working efficiency to a large extent. A vivid example would be my own experience. As a college student, for most of the time, I am busy dealing with tons of assignments, including essays, presentations and research projects, to name just a few, which is exactly the major reason whyI feel stressed out. In my leisure time, I enjoy bathing myself in the world of comedies and I have a strong passion for the movies starred by Jim Carrey, a world-renowned Hollywood star, who is celebrated for numerous comedies, such as Truman’s World and Mask. His comedies always help me to recharge my battery and become far more energetic to commit myself into future studies.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration.Science fiction movies reflect the predictions of future life, although most of them are unrealistic and they are always full of imagination. However, it is exactly those seemingly unrealistic predictions that sometimes stimulate the sparkles of human intelligence and bring unexpected things into our daily lives. Several years ago, I watched a Hollywood blockbuster called the Transformers. Like other blockbusters, this one shot to fame because of its amazing three-dimensional effects and well-designed plots. While watching the film, I was more than impressed by a car called Bumblebee which is pretty cool and can easily transform into a robot and I was even wondering how people would feel if they own a car like that. However, soon after the movie became popular, car manufacturers began producing a car with exactly the same appearance and it soon hit the market, which undoubtedly became a best-seller. Hadn’t it been for that movie, we would have never had the chance to experience driving the Bumblebee.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusionthatcomedies and science fiction movies are also well worth watching.

 1. 常见机经话题范文

 (1). doing housework

In order to help students learn the sense of responsibility, it is necessary for them to do household work after school.

The issue concerning whether doing housework is an effective way for students to cultivate a sense of responsibility has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time, but there seems to be no consensus among people. Some people maintain the opinion that there must exist far better ways than doing housework and the little jobs around house can barely work for students to become more responsible, about which I feel highly skeptical. However, other individuals tend to view this issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel as I do that it makes great sense for students to do some trifles in the house if they are really serious about fostering the sense of responsibility and doing housework can benefit them in other aspects as well. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for harboring this opinion, among which the following one is of primary importance. Doing some little jobs around the house can definitely help students cultivate their self-independence, which is beneficial for their future deve

lopment. To be more specific, most students nowadays spend the majority of their time dealing with academic assignments, thereby leading to a phenomenon that they are comparatively weak when it comes to handling other business in real life. By doing housework, students can cultivate a great sense of responsibility, a quality that has always been valued highly in the job market. Therefore, it can improve their competence as well as the possibility for them to find good employment in the future. A perfect example to back up this point would be my own experience. In retrospect, dating from my childhood time, I have always felt obliged to do some housework, which has something to do with the education my parents gave me, which also has benefited me a lot. By doing those little jobs, I have gradually become far more independent and responsible, which is exactly the major reason why Ihave been successfully elected monitor of my class.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. Doing housework makes it possible for students to reduce their parents’ burden to a large extent. Specifically speaking, with the living expenses increasing at a stunning pace all the time, parents have no choice but to work extremely diligently in order to support their families. Thus, most of their time is spent in the office working on tons of jobs confronting them every day. In this case, it seems undeniable in a broad sense that if students can shoulder some responsibility in the house for their parents, it will strengthen their family bond and contribute to a more harmonious family life.

In a nutshell, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that it is of great significance for students to do housework.

In retrospect, she used to live in an old community where there were few residents, which is exactly the major reason why the property office refused to offer them heat in winter.

  (2). increasing teachers' salaries

The best way to improve the quality of education is to increase teachers’ salaries.

The issue concerning whether increasing teachers’ salaries may serve as the most effective way to enhance the overall quality of education has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time, but there seems to be no consensus among people. Some people maintain the opinion that there are no better ways to improve education, about which I feel highly skeptical. However, other individuals tend to view this issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel as I do that helping schools, secondary schools in particular, to open a better variety of courses or subjects may be even more effective. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for harboring this opinion, among which the following one is of primary importance. Opening a better variety of subjects or courses can definitely improve students’ competence to a large extent. It seems undeniable in a broad sense that by taking classes in different areas, students will have the opportunity to acquire a wide range of knowledge and develop comprehensive abilities. To be more specific, science subjects like biology and chemistry can develop their critical as well as logical thinking. Liberal art subjects like languages and history, on the other hand, can deepen students’ understanding of human civilization and improve their communication skills. Those abilities and skills

altogether will contribute to a more promising future career life. Nowadays, competition in the job market has become increasingly fierce. Without a good range of knowledge, it is completely out of the question for students to find good employment in the future. A perfect example to back up this point would be my cousin. She used to attend an international high school whose education system is really different from those in other high schools in China. Like other students there, my cousin has the freedom to choose whatever classes she is interested in, because they have a great many choices. Their curricula even include some highly professional courses, including further math, economics, finance and art design, to name just a few, all of which belong to the university curricula in China. There is no denying the fact that the good variety of courses helped my cousin to be more competent.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. If students have the opportunity to take multiple courses, they will discover the learning process is more than interesting. In that case, they won’t be easily distracted in class and can better focus their attention, thereby improving their study efficiency to a large extent. Moreover, by taking some newly-opened non-academic classes like art and sculpture, students can get relaxation. Most students in modern society, especially secondary school students and college students, are confronted with overwhelming pressure from their heavy study load. If they were given enough chances to take non-academic classes, they would become fully rested and better devote themselves to academic work.

In a nutshell, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that helping schools to open more courses and subjects is a better choice compared with improving teachers’ salaries if countries are serious about improving the quality of their education.

(3). the best education for children

The most important investment that can be made to the education of children aged four to seven is giving them a computer.

The issue concerning whether giving young children aged four to seven a computer is the most effective investment in their education has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time, but there seems to be no consensus among people. Some people maintain the opinion that it must prove the most effective, about which I feel highly skeptical. However, other individuals tend to view this issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel as I do that there are far better ways in the education of young children, including requiring them to read a variety of books and taking them to visit different places, to name just a few. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for harboring this opinion, among which the following one is of primary importance. Compared with using the computer, reading books can definitely help children aged 4 and 7 to acquire knowledge. To be more specific, an increasing number of researches have shown that this time period is the so-called golden period for reading. Children aged 4 to 7 are generally believed to have better memories and the theoretic knowledge they obtain from books tend to leave a lasting impression on them in their future

lives. Therefore, it will be a pity if this time period is wasted on other trivial things like the computer. Besides, reading a good variety of books ranging from history to biology can also help children learn about different areas and in this case, they are more likely to discover their personal interest as well as talent from an early stage of life. A perfect example to back up this point would be my own experience. In retrospect, dating from my childhood time, I have been constantly required by my parents to do a lot of reading and the books I have read cover many areas, such as history, mathematics as well as languages. Hadn’t it been for this requirement, I would have never discovered my particular interest and talent in the mathematics field from an early period or made the plan to further my undergraduate studies in this field in the United States next year.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. Traveling is another investment that can help children become well-educated. Specifically speaking, by traveling to different places with their parents, children can definitely expand their views significantly. It seems undeniable in a broad sense that traveling gives children the opportunity to learn about diversified cultures, enlarge their social circles and experience new lifestyles, all of which will eventually contribute to a better future life. More importantly, the knowledge they can pick up from traveling is something that can never be obtained from computer, because it is a totally different experience when a child actually visits a certain travel destination rather than view the pictures of this place online.

In a nutshell, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that reading and traveling are more important investments for the education of children aged four to seven.

  (4). improving neighborhoods

In the past, people were more interested in improving their neighborhoods than they are today.

The issue concerning whether people in the past showed greater interest in improving their neighborhoods has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time, but there seems to be no consensus among people. Some people maintain the opinion that compared with their contemporary counterparts, people living in the past did show more interest in improving their neighborhoods, about which I feel highly skeptical. However, other individuals tend to view this issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel as I do that people nowadays are definitely far more concerned about improving neighborhoods. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for harboring this opinion, among which the following one is of primary importance. People in modern society seem to be more interested in improving the surroundings, especially facilities in their neighborhoods, which has something to do with the fact that they need those facilities for relaxation. Specifically speaking, nowadays, people spend the majority of their time dealing with tons of jobs or academic assignments confronting them, which is exactly the major reason why they are usually faced with overwhelming pressure. With more facilities in people’s communities, sports facilities and entertainment facilities i

n particular, they can exercise on a regular basis to improve their health conditions as well as have much fun to release their stress, thereby contributing to a much healthier lifestyle for modern people. But when it comes to the situation in the past, it seemed to be a totally different picture. Hundreds of years ago, people were not forced to work or study so diligently in order to support their families or improve their own competence. Therefore, there was little necessity for them to unwind in their neighborhoods.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. The natural environment in the past was not severely damaged, which made it possible for most people to live in beautiful neighborhoods. Improvement in the natural environment in people’s neighborhoods was unnecessary, so people didn’t show particular interest in this field. The last few decades, however, have witnessed the natural environment in most countries all over the world deteriorating to a large extent, thereby leading to the fact that citizens have no choices but to make great attempts in improving the natural environment in their communities, because it seems undeniable in a broad sense that everybody wants to live under a crystal clear sky as well as a nice community surrounded by fancy flowers and greenery. Nobody would be willing to breathe in poisonous air and drink contaminated water all the time.

In a nutshell, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that more attention has been paid by modern people to the improvement of their communities.

  (5). athletes and entertainers

Athletes and entertainers can be good politicians.

The issue concerning whether athletes and entertainers can become good politicians has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time, but there seems to be no consensus among people. Some people maintain the opinion that it is out of the question for sportspeople and entertainment stars to establish themselves in the political field, about which I feel highly skeptical. However, other individuals tend to view this issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel as I do that it is possible for athletes and entertainers to make great politicians. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for harboring this opinion, among which the following one is of primary importance. Entertainers and athletes, especially famous ones, already have tons of people supporting them. If they become politicians, they can effectively arouse public awareness in many aspects, thereby improving the overall efficiency of political work to a large extent. A perfect example to back up this point would be Ronald Reagan, who used to be a Hollywood star and later he was elected president of the United States. After becoming president of the US, he enacted some new policies for the entire nation, most of which were always supported by the general public, and I firmly believe that it has something to do with his previous identity as a Hollywood star.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermoresubtle point should also be taken into consideration. Celebrated athletes and entertainers become famous for specific reasons and those factors contributing to their fame can also pave the way for their careers if they become politicians. Generally speaking,

athletes become well-known because they have been receiving intensive training for a long time, which definitely cultivates their endurance. Besides, they always learn how to cooperate with others in order to win a specific athletic competition. Thus, they have great team spirit, which is also crucial for implementing political jobs. Renowned entertainers are generally believed to have perfect communication skills, as they know exactly how to please others and how to gain their trust and admiration. In political work, effectively conveying thoughts is of no less significance compared with the implementation of a specific policy.

In a nutshell, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that athletes and entertainers do have the potential to make great politicians.

  (6). reduce governmental funding

In times of an economic crisis, in which area should the government reduce its spending?

 i. Education

 ii. Health care

 iii. Support for the unemployed

The issue concerning whether education and health care are of greater importance to the overall development of a nation in an economicdepression when compared with support for the unemployed has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time, but there seems to be no consensus among people. Some people maintain the opinion that governmental funding in education and health care can be reduced in times of an economic crisis, about which I feel highly skeptical. However, other individuals tend to view this issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel as I do that under no circumstances should these two areas be undervalued by the government, especially in times of economic depressions. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for harboring this opinion, among which the following one is of primary importance. Education improves people’s literacy and competence. If the standards of education are lowered or educational resources are cut down, it will be a national disaster for this country. Even when the financial crisis passes, people may fail to recover from the loss. A lack of knowledge will affect their future development, thereby affecting the whole nation as well. A perfect example to back up this point would be the 1970s in China, a period when Chinese economy was suffering from a great depression and a period when millions of young people who had been receiving education in schools previously were deprived of the right to continue their education. Instead, they were sent to some remote areas for developing agriculture in order to help construct the national economy. However, this decision from the government was disastrous to the whole country. Eventually, when the national economy recovered from the great depression, there was a lack of well-educated elites to build the economy and to bring it back to prosperity.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. Health care is another aspect in which governmental funding should never be reduced. With the costs in health care cut down, the number of healthy citizens will decline significantly, thereby leading to a possible phenomenon that fewer citizens will remain competent in helping

the country to rebuild its economy and make it flourish once again. The key role of the national government is to improve the quality of its people’s lives, but with the worsening of health conditions, people are likely to feel increasingly unsatisfied with their government, a case in which social riots may even occur.

In a nutshell, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that support for the unemployed is a respect where funding from the government can be reduced in an economic crisis, but education and health care always deserve the foremost support from the government.

(7). social media and text messages

The issue concerning whether people nowadays spend way too much time on social media and text messages has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time, but there seems to be no consensus among people. Some people maintain the opinion that the amount of time spent by people communicating with others through social media and text messages is quite reasonable, about which I feel highly skeptical. However, other individuals tend to view this issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel as I do that social media and text messages have cost us way too much time and energy and this social trend is less-than-desirable. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for harboring this opinion, among which the following one is of primary importance. Face-to-face communication in modern society has declined significantly over the last few decades and real-life interaction has been replaced by virtual communication through high-tech devices like computers or cellphones. To be more specific, most people today are preoccupied with their jobs or academic studies, thereby leading to the social phenomenon that they have little extra time left to communicate with friends or families in person. Over a long period of time, people have become loosely connected, which is closely related to the overuse of social media and text messages. A perfect example to back up this point would be my own life experience. I used to have a group of intimate friends in primary school when we played together almost every day and had a lot of fun. But when it comes to the present days, it is a totally different picture. Since we have to deal with tons of school assignments, we seldom have the chance to meet with each other in person, a case in which we have no choice but to spend the majority of our leisure time chatting through social networking websites like Facebook and Instagram. However, I can hardly feel the close bond among us anymore and that really has something to do with the way of communication we use and with the amount of time we spend on social media. Had we used the time interacting face to face, it would have never turned into a situation like this.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. Due to the fact that people are spending too much time on social media, their health conditions also suffer. Scientific research has revealed that the radiation from high-tech devices, including computers and cellphones, to name just a few, is detrimental to the human body. Actually, a recent survey conducted by Peking University in China has uncovered an astonishing fact that over the last 2 decades, the number of people suffering from radiation-related diseases has increased dramatically by 59 percent, a phenomenon which is directly linked to the great amount of time people spend on social

media and text messages. Worse still, if people stare at the screens of electronic equipment and bow their heads for a long time, their vision will also decline and they are even more likely to be affected by various diseases.

In a nutshell, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that the time spent on social media and text messages should definitely be reduced.

Be harmful to, be detrimental to, be disastrous to…

 Sth be affected, sth suffer

(1). advertisements targeting children should be banned

Advertisements targeting children aged between 2 and 5 should be banned.

The issue concerning whether or not advertising targeting children aged between 2 to 5 should be prohibited has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion thatit makes no sense to ban the advertisements targeting children of that age group, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that due to various factors, it is definitely necessary to prohibit companies from advertising to children between 2 to 5 years old. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. It seems undeniable in a broad sense that children aged between 2 to 5 are generally believed to lack the ability to tell right from wrong, a case in which they will ask for the productions from commercial advertisements as long as they find the images in them appealing, thereby increasing their parents’ financial burden to a large extent. They may end up receiving tons of toys or snacks from their parents, but even don’t have the chance to try them all. A vivid example would be my 5-year-old little nephew. Every time when he discovers a fancy product from TV commercials, he would immediately ask his parents to purchase them. It is more than challenging for parents to refuse a 5-year-old boy, because he is too naïve and if he fails to get what he wants, he would definitely burst into tears. Therefore, whenever I visit my nephew, I always find that his bedroom is stuffed with tons of useless toy cars and model planes. Hadn’t it been for those TV commercials advertising toys for young boys, the money spent on them would never have been wasted.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. Children aged between 2 to 5 have not yet shaped any sense of value, so exposing them directly to commercial advertisements will undoubtedly develop materialism in them. Actually, a recent survey conducted by Peking University in China has revealed an astonishing fact that children exposed to commercialized TV programs or advertisements are generally believed to be far more materialistic than children receiving good protection from them. Sweden is the only country in this world which has specific laws banning commercial advertisements targeting children under the age of 7 and it really works.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that it is quite reasonable to ban the advertisements which target young children between 2 and 5 years old due to the negative influence that they are likely to generate.

(2). it is more fun to see a movie in the cinema

It is more fun to see a movie in the cinema with other people than see a movie at home.

The issue concerning whether or not seeing movies in the cinema is more fun than seeing movies at home has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that there seems to be no different between the two, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that it is a totally different feeling when people watch movies in cinemas or theatres and it also offers people far more pleasure. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. While watching movies in the cinema, people can enjoy amazing special effects, especially when they watch some Hollywood blockbusters, thereby releasing their stress. It is even more exciting to appreciate movies when the viewers are exposed to a huge screen and wear 3-dimensional glasses. However, when it comes to watching movies at home on television or on the computer, it is a totally different picture. Specifically speaking, it fails to create the same-level excitement and people are less attracted by the plots as well. A vivid example would be my own experience. As a college student, for most of the time, I am preoccupied with my academic studies, as I have to work on tons of assignments, including essays, presentations and research projects, to name just a few, a case in which I am usually confronted with overwhelming pressure. Whenever I want to unwind, the number one choice must be watching movies with my friends in the cinema in town, which proves the most effective way for me to recharge my battery. Once, when I was watching a science fiction movie called the Transformers, I even couldn’t help screaming like other viewers in the movie hall, because it was a 3-dimensional movie telling the story of trucks transforming into robots and fighting with each other and I was more than amazed by the special effects displayed in the movie. Later, when I appreciated the movie again on my laptop in the dorm on campus, it didn’t arouse my interest a bit.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. It is out of the question for a group of people to enjoy a movie together at home, but it is possible in the cinema. While watching movies with friends or families in a movie theatre, we can not only appreciate the well-designed plots and visual effects, but also enjoy the special atmosphere there. More importantly, it is an effective way for friends and families to tighten their relationship. A recent survey conducted by Peking University in China has revealed an astonishing fact that 78 percent people are desperate for the opportunity to hang out with friends or family members on a regular basis. What is worth noticing is that among the 78 percent, more than half of them regard cinemas as the most suitable place for them to hang out together.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that owing to the special effects and precious opportunity for people to communicate, watching movies together in the cinema is far more pleasant than watching

  movies at home.

(3). watching movies that teach us something about real life

It is only worth watching movies that can teach us something about real life

The issue concerning whether or not we should only watch movies that teach us something about real life has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. Entertaining movies, namely comedies, never fail to help viewers get some relaxation. Specifically speaking, most people nowadays, youngsters in particular, are always preoccupied with their jobs or academic studies, a case in which they are usually confronted with overwhelming pressure and find it hard to devote themselves to future work or studies. By watching entertaining movies whose mere purpose is to bring people fun rather than educate them, most people can release their stress and better focus on future work, thereby improving their working efficiency to a large extent. A vivid example would be my own experience. As a college student, for most of the time, I am busy dealing with tons of assignments, including essays, presentations and research projects, to name just a few, which is exactly the major reason why I feel stressed out. In my leisure time, I enjoy bathing myself in the world of comedies and I have strong passion for the movies starred by Jim Carrey, a world-renowned Hollywood star, who is celebrated for numerous comedies, such as Truman’s World and Mask.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that comedies and science fiction movies are also well worth watching.

(1). parents' involvement in children's education

Parents today are more involved in their children's education than parents were in the past

The issue concerning whether or not parents nowadays are more involved in children’s education compared with their counterparts in the past has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that it is parents in the past that paid more attention to their children’s education, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that with the advent of more educational resources as well as the improved literacy of parents, they are really more involved in children’s education. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. Parents in modern society have more access to various educational resources, which can be attributed to the advent of some high technology like the internet. Specifically speaking, they can search for tons of resources concerning education online simply with a click of the mouse, thereby making it possible for parents to improve their own understandings of education and making them more qualified as their children’s educators. However, when it comes to parents in the past, it was a totally different picture. The lack of teaching resources made it out of the question for them to be directly involved in educating their children, a case in which parents felt helpless but could come up with no ideal solution. Actually, there exist numerous examples around us that may prove this. A vivid example would be my parents. In retrospect, dating from my childhood time, my parents have been constantly giving me correct instructions, especially when I encounter some difficulties or setbacks, which has something to do with the fact that they have both referred to tons of books as well as videos on the internet regarding the education of children. Hadn’t it been for that good variety of educational resources to which they referred, they would never have made such important educators in my life.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. It seems undeniable in a broad sense that with world economy developing at a stunning pace, the overall literacy of parents has also been improved significantly. A recent survey conducted by Peking University in China has revealed an astonishing fact that over the last 5 decades, the number of parents receiving advanced education in our country has increased dramatically by over 57 percent, a fact which is directed related to the growing amount of attention paid to children’s education from them, because higher literacy definitely results in far more interest in educating children.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that parents in modern society show more involvement in their children’s education compared with parents in the past.

(2). children play sports in competitions

Children should only play sports for fun rather than play sports in competitions or contests.

The issue concerning whether or not the mere purpose for children to play sports is having fun has been in the limelight for

a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that it makes no sense for children to play sports in competitions and playing sports for fun is definitely a far better choice, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that by participating in sports competitions, children can benefit in many other aspects, most of which cannot be generated by playing sports simply for fun. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. It seems undeniable in a broad sense that playing sports in competitions definitely cultivates children’s team spirit and makes it possible for them to develop their social skills as well by communicating and cooperating with their teammates, thereby contributing to a more promising future for children. Specifically speaking, most children nowadays come from one-child families, which is exactly the major reason why they are always self-centered and seldom take other people into consideration while making decisions or doing other important things in life. By taking part in sports competitions, however, it will turn out to be a totally different story, because it’s exactly the case in which children need to learn how to cooperate with others for the sake of a common goal-to win the competition. A vivid example would be my own experience. In retrospect, dating from my childhood time, I have been required to participate in numerous competitions, sports matches in particular. Hadn’t it been for those sports competitions, I would have never cultivated the sense of teamwork or met with a whole new circle of friends. Additionally, I always played the role of the leader in those competitions, which helped me foster my leadership skills and which was exactly the major reason why I was successfully elected monitor of my class last semester.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. Competitions of all categories will undoubtedly help children to witness the power and competence of their rivals, thereby making them become aware of their own weaknesses and the room for their improvement. In addition, sports competitions are to some extent quite different from others, because they require one hundred percent commitment from all participants, a process in which competitors also cultivate their endurance and the spirit of never quitting. Those qualities, however, would never be acquired if children play sports only for fun.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that children should definitely play sports in competitions rather than simply play them for pleasure.

(3). parents should allow children to make mistakes

Parents should let children make mistakes and let them learn from their own mistakes.

The issue concerning whether or not children should be allowed to make mistakes has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that parents should give their children correct guidance all the time and spare no effort to help their children avoid making mistakes, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that the process of making mistakes is also the

process of learning and under no circumstances should children be deprived of this right to learn. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. By allowing children to make mistakes, parents also make it possible for children to learn how to cope with the mistakes they make and how to shoulder their due responsibility, a process which paves the way for their self-correction and helps them avoid making the same mistakes in the future. A vivid example would be my personal experience. In retrospect, dating from my childhood time, I have been used to consulting my parents for advice whenever I encountered some setbacks or had extreme difficulty in making specific decisions. What is worth noticing is that my parents only gave me some useful advice rather than help me make those decisions directly. I have made tons of mistakes in my life, like everybody else does, but each time I made a mistake, I would bear in mind the major factors leading to my mistake and avoid them in my future life. Hadn’t it been for the fact that my parents gave me the opportunities to experience those mistakes, I would have never learned so many useful lessons.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. Through the process of making mistakes, children can realize their own merits as well as demerits, especially the weaknesses they have, thereby understanding themselves better and avoiding arrogance. Never should we neglect the fact that most children in contemporary society come from one-child families, which directly leads to the phenomenon that for most of the time, they are extremely self-centered and seldom do they have the chance to see the demerits in themselves. Actually, a recent survey conducted by Peking University in China has revealed an astonishing fact. Specifically speaking, according to the survey, more than 89 percent of children from single-child families are generally believed to have way too positive self-images and the last 2 decades have witnessed this figure mounting dramatically by 28 percent, which has something to do with parents’ overprotection for their children and their depriving of opportunities for children to make mistakes.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that children should undoubted be allowed to make mistakes, a process which helps them to improve.

(1). families have regular meals together

It is important for families to have meals together regularly.

The issue concerning whether or not it is of great importance for families to have regular meals together has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that having meals with family members on a regular basis is unnecessary and people can spend the family meal time in some better ways, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that it makes great sense for families to have meals together regularly, because it will definitely strengthen the relationship among different members in the family. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argume

 nt.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. Regular family meals will improve the bond between parents and children to a large extent. Specifically speaking, most people nowadays are preoccupied with their jobs or studies, a case in which they have little extra time to communicate with their children or parents, which may possibly lead to a social phenomenon that parents and children will become loosely connected in the long run. By having meals together, however, this problem can be resolved, as parents and children have far more opportunities to interact and exchange some important ideas on the dinner table. A vivid example would be my own experience. In retrospect, dating from my childhood time, I have been used to having meals with my parents almost every day. While having meals with them, I would like to share with them the things happening in my school and sometimes even consult them for their advice to tackle the problems confronting me in my life. In return, my parents would also offer me some valuable advice to help me out, which I suppose is exactly the major reason why we are tightly connected all the time. Hadn’t it been for the pleasant time we had on the dinner table, we would never have got along so harmoniously with each other.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. Having family meals on a regular basis can also tighten the connections between husbands and wives, thereby reducing their divorce rates significantly as well as relieving burden for the government. To be more detailed, people today spend the majority of their time in their workplaces, dealing with tons of jobs and being confronted with overwhelming pressure. It seems undeniable in a broad sense that if they get the opportunity to talk with their mates about the stress they face and the difficulties they encounter, they can cope with their mental pressure more effectively and feel tightly connected with their mates at the same time. However, when it comes to the case that they are deprived of the time or chance to have meals with mates, it is a totally different picture. If that really happens, they will become increasingly apathetic to each other, which may eventually result in divorces. Worse still, in some developed countries like Japan, the government is responsible for raising young children in the family if their parents get divorced. Therefore, if divorce rates can be controlled, governmental burden will also be relieved to some extent, which can be realized by encouraging couples to have meals together regularly.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that under no circumstances would having regular family meals be unimportant.

  (2). extended family

The extended family (grandparent, cousin, aunts, and uncles) has become less important in modern society than the past.

The issue concerning whether or not the extended family still plays an important role in modern society has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that although society is developing at a stunning pace in all aspects, it still makes great sense for people to live in extended families with most of their relatives, including cousins, and uncles, to name just a few. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that the existence of extended families is unnecessary and

nuclear family can better fit the current social trend. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. Nowadays, kin relationship has been loosened to a large extent, which can be attributed to the development of world economy and the social assistance system in most countries, especially developed ones, including the United States, and Japan, to name just a few. Specifically speaking, governments of those countries are better able to take care of their citizens, especially the elderly and the disabled, thereby reducing the necessity for family members to care about them. However, when it comes to the time before industrialization, it was a totally different picture. Back then, social welfare couldn’t equal that in modern society and it was out of the question for governments to spend a large amount of money taking care of senior citizens or young children, a case in which the responsibility must be shouldered by family members. Therefore, in that social background, the extended family was definitely important. A vivid example would be my family. My grandfather has been suffering from heart disease for ages, but my parents are always preoccupied with their jobs, having little extra time to look after him. In retrospect, 5 years ago, my grandfather was sent to a nursing home for elderly people in town, where he received good care from the nursing staff and even made some new friends. Even if he does not live with us, he is still under careful care. Hadn’t it been for some nursing homes like that, it would have been impossible for my parents to leave my grandfather alone.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. Thousands of years ago, it was fathers, grandfathers or elder cousins in the family who were responsible for instilling knowledge and teaching basic living skills to the young, including hunting animals, cultivating plants and cutting trees, and so on. In that case, it was of great significance for large families to exist, for the elder in the family played an essential role for teaching. Today, however, it is public schools, universities or private institutes that deliver knowledge, which is another major reason why the extended family is no longer important. To be more detailed, universities, colleges and private institutes can help people acquire complex and elaborate knowledge to improve their competence, which cannot be taught by fathers or elder cousins.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that the extended family has gradually lost its importance due to the advanced social assistance system as well as the improved education in society.

(3). be different from other people

In order to succeed, we should be more like others than be different from others.

The issue concerning whether or not being different from others may contribute to our success has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that we should be more like others in our lives if we are really seriously about achieving success, as that will definitely bring us closer to other people, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that being different from others, we are more likely to succeed. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. In that case, he can seldom make achievements beyond/surpassing people’s expectations. A vivid example to back up this argument would be my elder cousin. In retrospect, three years ago, he graduated from college and became employed as a salesperson in a local company. However, within three years, he successfully climbed his career ladder and got the appreciation from his employer, which is exactly the major reason why he was promoted sales managers of his department several months ago. I was not a bit surprised upon hearing the news, because my cousin is a person who has different perspectives in viewing things from many people and he also has distinct marketing skills from the other staff members in his department. Therefore, the very first year he worked in that company, he managed to arouse the attention from some senior managers and eventually stood out.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. People’s talents differ greatly, a case in which we should discover our own talents and exploit our own potential rather than chase the public trend and do something we dislike.

(4). remain happy when you fail

To remain happy and optimistic when you fail is more important than achieving success.

The issue concerning whether or not being optimistic when facing failures is more important than achieving success has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that achieving the final success is definitely more important than a good mood, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exac

tly as I do being happy and optimistic overweighs the ultimate success we want. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. There is no permanent success or everlasting failure. Only when we are optimistic enough can we maintain a good state of mind, thereby making it possible for us to calmly analyze the reasons for our failures and avoid making the same mistakes in the future, which will eventually lead to our ultimate success. However, with a negative emotion when confronted with failures, one is unlikely to keep calm or learn from his failures, making it out of the question for him to figure out how to improve himself and prepare for future success. A vivid example would be my own father. In retrospect, starting from my childhood time, he has started several businesses on his own and the business he does covers many areas, ranging from information technology to real estate, to name just a few. Over the last 2 decades, I have witnessed with my own eyes the success as well as the failures he once had, but what sticks in my memory is my father’s positive emotion all the time. Once, when I was 16 years old, his computer company was on the verge of going bankrupt. Unlike other business owners who must be more than depressed when facing bankruptcy, my father still maintained optimism and eventually, under the assistance from his previous friends in college, he managed to bring his company back to prosperity again. Hadn’t it been for his optimism, my father would never have overcome those setbacks.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. People want to achieve success in order to satisfy certain desires in their lives, including buying the luxuries they want or improving the living conditions for their families, to name just a few, all of which can give them a great sense of achievement and finally make them feel happy with their lives. If people lack optimism and a positive state of mind, achieving success will lose its primitive meaning. A recent survey conducted by Peking University in China has revealed an astonishing fact that more than 60 percent of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world, including Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, attach more importance to the happiness they derive from their success rather than success itself, which is exactly the major reason why they chose to donate most of their possessions to charity organizations, a behavior which brings them recognition from society, helps them achieve their values and become happy eventually.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that it is definitely important to remain happy and optimistic when people are confronted with failures, which is of greater significance than the success people achieve.

 (1). easier to achieve success

However, when it comes to the past, it was a totally different picture. Specifically speaking, back then, people lived in an era when the spread of information was hindered by various factors, which is directly responsible for the phenomenon that most people were ignorant and never had the chance to learn about how to achieve success. A vivid example would be my grandfather.

Actually, a recent survey conducted by Peking University in China has revealed an astonishing fact that more than 72 percent of the most celebrated and successful entrepreneurs in the world, including Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, to name just a few, once received advanced education in top universities. Good education laid a solid foundation for them to start their own businesses in their future lives and eventually become well-established. What is worth noticing is that among the 72 percent celebrities, nearly half of them became successful under the assistance from their friends and classmates in college. In other words, not only did advanced education brought them the opportunity to acquire useful knowledge for future success, but also brought them a circle of friends that could make useful social connections in the future.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that owing to the emergence of high technology and people’s improved literacy, achieving success has been made easier now.

(2). people today are less friendly

People today are not as friendly as people were in the past.

The issue concerning whether or not modern people are less friendly compared with their counterparts in the past has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that there is no difference between them, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that due to various factors, people in modern society have indeed become more indifferent to each other. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. It seems undeniable in a broad sense that most people in modern society and always preoccupied with their jobs or academic studies, which is exactly the major reason why they are confronted with overwhelming pressure and have little extra time

or energy left to socialize with others in their lives, thereby leading to the phenomenon that they become more apathetic to each other as time passes by. However, when it comes to the past, it was a totally different situation. Specifically speaking, people were not under huge pressure to support their families and there was little necessity for them to be fully committed to their work, which left them much time to communicate with their families, friends and neighbors, to name just a few. A more relaxing lifestyle definitely promoted people’s relationship with others. Thus, they were much friendlier to each other. A vivid example would be my own experience. In retrospect, I used to live in a small community in my childhood where residents were familiar with each other and were always friendly. They spent a lot of time chatting together and organizing community activities. Today, however, I live in a skyscraper in the city center and I seldom have the chance to meet with my neighbors, not to mention to be nice to them.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. Most people nowadays prefer to find their social networks online, which is responsible for the fact that they have become loosely connected with their friends or families and even become increasingly indifferent to each other. Heavy workload makes it extremely difficult for them to communicate with friends face to face, but with a click of the mouse, they can easily interact with each other online, a case in which virtual communication becomes dominant and affects people’s relationships. Actually, a recent survey conducted by Peking University in China has revealed an astonishing fact that over the last 2 decades, the number of citizens who are used to finding their social networks on the internet has climbed dramatically by 76 percent and the figure keeps growing all the time. What is worth noticing is that nearly 82 percent among them are youngsters, a group of people who show particular interest in brand-new things like online communication and also a group of people who are the main victims under the present trend.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion thatowing to a much busier lifestyle as well as the emergence of high technology like the internet, the relationships among people have been loosened.

(3). students are more influenced by teachers

Students are more influenced by teachers than by friends.

The issue concerning whether or not teachers exert greater influence on students whencompared with their friends has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that as the most important instructors in students’ lives, teachers are undoubtedly more influential than their friends, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that due to various factors,it is exactly friends who tend to influence students more. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. Students and their friends, namely their peers, belong to the same generation, which is exactly the major reason why they tend to view things from the same perspective and why they are more likely to accept the ideas from each other. The absence of generation gap makes it fa

r easier for them to communicate as well. However, when it comes to teachers, it is a totally different picture. Specifically speaking, it seems undeniable in a broad sense that teachers, for most of the time, are highly respected by students owing to their special status, but respect does not equal influence. Seldom do students compare notes with their teachers or consult them for advice while encountering some difficulties in real lives that are irrelevant to their studies, thereby making it more than difficult for teachers to influence them. A vivid example would be my own experience. In retrospect, dating from my childhood time, I have been constantly seeking help from my peers to tackle the problems confronting me in my life and they never let me down. Honestly speaking, I did have the experience of asking teachers for help from time to time, but to my great disappointment, because of the huge generation gap between us, they always failed to offer me the most practical advice or insight that I needed. Hadn’t it been for those unpleasant experiences, I would never have realized that teachers could not really make the most important or influential people in our lives.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. Teachers in modern society, secondary school teachers and university teachers in particular, are always preoccupied with their jobs, including grading students’ assignments, preparing for lectures, doing researches and even publishing essays, to name just a few, a case in which they have little extra time or energy left to communicate with their students after class, which is directly responsible for the loosened relationship between teachers and students nowadays. A recent survey conducted by Peking University in China has revealed an astonishing fact that nearly 67 percent university professors in China have less than 2 hours per week to communicate with their students in college individually. However, the precondition of exerting great influence on someone is that enough time must be spent with him, so under the present circumstances, it’s completely out of the question for teachers to have profound influence on their students.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion thatit is friends rather than teachers that tend to have greater effects on students.

(4). understanding the past to solve present problems

To solve the present and future problems, it is necessary to understand the past.

The issue concerning whether or not understanding the past is conducive to solving the present and future problems has been in the limelight for a considerable amount of time and there seems to be no consensus among people. Some harbor the opinion that it makes no sense to refer to what happened in the past if people are serious about addressing present and future problems, about which I feel highly skeptical. Other individuals, however, tend to view the issue from a rather distinctive perspective and they feel exactly as I do that there is a strong connection between the past and the present and learning from the past proves an effective way in helping people tackle present problems. The following paragraphs will testify to the credibility of this argument.

There are numerous reasons for holding this opinion, among which the following one is of the foremost importance. Things develop in similar ways, both in the past, at present and in the future, thereby making absorbing wisdom from past experiences and better fixing the problems confronting us a possibility.

A vivid example would be my own experience. In retrospect, dating from my childhood time, I have been constantly consulting my parents, especially my father for advice when I encounter difficulties or setbacks, because I always firmly believe that what they used to experience in their previous lives would be of great value in assisting me to deal with my problems as well. My father is a person undergoing extremely tough conditions at the very beginning when he started his own business, a process during which he learned numerous useful lessons and cultivated a strong will in himself, which is exactly the major reason why he could always give me positive energy and correct instructions. I have been desperately dreaming of becoming a well-established entrepreneur like him for ages, but everything turned out to be far more challenging than I imagined. I started a small company with two of my classmates from college last year, but as time passed by, we eventually discovered that our concepts of managing the company totally conflicted. When we were on the verge of quitting due to some management problems, it was my father who saved our company using his own wisdom. Hadn’t it been for the wisdom he collected through his own experiences and failures in the past, our company would have long vanished.

Apart from what has been argued in the previous part of this article, another furthermore subtle point should also be taken into consideration. It seems undeniable in a broad sense that past experiences, especially negative ones, tend to leave a lasting impression on people and therefore can successfully help them avoid making similar mistakes in their future lives. A recent survey conducted by Peking University in China has revealed an astonishing fact that nearly 95 percent of celebrated entrepreneurs in the world, including Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, used to experience hardships and made wrong decisions for their enterprises at the very beginning of their career lives. What is worth noticing is that nearly 67 percent among them were confronted with similar choices and decisions again in their future careers and more than half learned from their past failures and avoided the same mistakes they had made previously, saving their enterprises from bankruptcy and bringing them back to prosperity again.

To conclude, based on all that has been stated above, we may now safely draw the conclusion that under no circumstance should people neglect the value of the past.In order to solve the present and future problems, people must understand things happening in the past as well the consequences they had.
